Immunity and infectionThe immune systemInfectious disease

Kurzgesagt explains how the human immune system responds to and fights off a bacterial infection using various specialized cells.

Every second of your life you are under attack. Bacteria, viruses, spores and more living stuff wants to enter your body and use its resources for itself. The immune system is a powerful army of cells that fights like a T-Rex on speed and sacrifices itself for your survival. Without it you would die in no time. This sounds simple but the reality is complex, beautiful and just awesome. An animation of the immune system. On “Informative YouTube channels”

…s and our place in it. Of course you aren't going to become an expert in astronomy, but you don't need to be. Many, certainly not all, but many of these videos are educational in the same sense. They give a layman a basic grasp of a complex subject. E.g. this video on the immune system won't make you a biologist, but it's still pretty informative: link to this video These are the kinds of videos that teachers might show in a classroom. Certainly they are way better made than the cheesy, poorly made educational videos I saw in school. And to be fair, all of this stuff is entertainment, even Cosmos. There's no practical value to me to learn about how stars are made, or how the immune system works. But I…

On “First person receives Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine in UK”

link to this video Here's a nice video on the immune system that might help you out. Their other videos on the immune system, the complement system, and viruses might also be helpful. Not the most technical deep dives, but good, abstracted explanations. In short, I don't think the vaccine prevents entry of the virus into the cells. That still happens, as it's a mechanical protein interaction (as far as I know). However, the vaccine (mRNA ones at least) work by producing the protein on the outside of the virus and putting that in your system, so your immune system learns how to respond. At least that's my mile-high interpretation.

On “Is one vaccine dose enough if you’ve had Covid? What the science says”

this video is good simple(ish) explaination - note it says bacteria, but the vid is for most things that are invasive link to this video It's from the Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell channel

On “India's farmed chickens dosed with world's strongest antibiotics, study finds”

The immune system is reactive and takes both energy and nutrients. Antibiotics reduce this expenditure which adds up over time. Consider how many of these steps involve cell growth and or tissue damage that needs to be repaired: link to this video TLDR; Low dose antibiotics don't eliminate infections, but by reducing their growth the immune system puts far less effort into defense.

The video below mentions whether the dendritic should call in a 'anti-virus force' or an 'army of bacteria killers'. The video goes on to talk about how bacteria is killed, using B-cells, but there's no mention of cytotoxic T-cells. Is the cytotoxic T-cells only for viral infections or is it for both? link to this video <-video is time stamped. I don't study biology and the internet is confusing sometimes.

On “Action of Ebola Viruses”

Viruses can infect any cell: a virus must have a host cell (bacteria, plant or animal) in which to live and make more viruses. Outside of a host cell, viruses cannot function. Source This includes the dendritic cells: Dendritic cells are antigen-presenting cells of the immune system. Their main function is to process antigen material and present it on the cell surface to the T cells of the immune system. They act as messengers. They don't actually release any antibodies. Source Quite simply, at the beginning of an infection, the viruses / bacteria will be destroyed by macrophages. The dendritic cell will "pick up" some of the leftover pieces. When it finds a T-Cell th…
