Marshall Rosenberg introduces the principles and practice of Nonviolent Communication to foster empathy and resolve conflicts.

Fully transcribed - subbed. K dispozícii sú aj (amatérsky preložené) slovenské titulky :) Just spreading the word on NVC - I transcribed the whole session for personal purposes and wanted to make the transcript publicly available - no copyright infringement intended. If you are one of the official NVC youtube channels, send me a word and I will gladly provide you with the transcript, so you could add it to the video on your channel (in which case I have no qualm deleting this one; just wanted to make sure the transcript is available for people who might need it). Please visit cnvc.org/ for more info on nonviolent communication.

On “Ask HN: Are you ok?”

I can relate somewhat. Even with the 5 year mark. 19 years in, somewhere along the line it seems we learnt to understand and love each other. Just wanted to provide the data point, such a thing is possible. One thing that might be just the thing is to checkout the model of “non violent communication” by Marshall Rosenberg. It’s a nice way of framing things, especially with whom responsibility of feelings lie. link to this video

On “Ask HN: How do I develop skills to comfort people and offer compassion?”

I'd start with "non-violent communication" by Marshall Rosenberg. It's a communication technique. There's a book, but there's also a YouTube video that's a very good starting point. link to this video link

On “Ask HN: How to Show Gratitude to a Coworker”

One approach that resonates with me is to use the NVC (non-violent communication) framework. How to express and receive gratitude with NVC: link Marshall talks about jackals and giraffes. In a nutshell, jackal language is what we all use everyday. Giraffe language is the language he is proposing we use to enable human connection. The full talk on NVC is here: link to this video

On “Ask HN: A genie appears. What do you wish for?”

…h part - was the key for me. And also the book "Hold me Tight" gave me mental clarity which led to mental clarity for organizing the experiences that I had in my life before. It was a life-changing event for me when I learned about this. together with watching the following video (which I did 1 year before and practiced it regularly with my wife): link to this video…

On “Ask HN: Have you ever had a changed-your-life moment?”

There's a discipline of communication called, Nonviolent Communication. link to this video It talks about communication via emotions, vs thoughts. I would suggest taking a look.

On “Reverse Engineering TikTok's VM Obfuscation (Part 2)”

…ise to completely different "human nature" - or perhaps merely gave it a healthier environment, so it manifested very differently. (This "problem" is frequently refuted in anarchist texts.) I'll leave some links which I think are relevant to this quest. I hope they provide some answers, or at least provoke further searching. 1. link 2. link 3. link to this video 4. link I hope we find a way. And for those looking and trying to move beyond the status quo, I supply a maxim to bear in mind when facing the unimaginative and the complacent - "It's always impossible until it's done."…

On “Murder-suicide case shows OpenAI selectively hides data after users die”

A lot of NVC writing is pretty bad. I recommend going directly to the source link to this video (3h video, but worth the time) I think NVC is better understood as a framework to reach deep non-judging empathic understanding than a speech pattern. If you are not really engaging in curious exploration of the other party using the OFNR framework before trying to deliver your own request I don’t think you can really call it NVC. At the very least it will be very hard to get your point across even with OFNR if ot validating the receiver. Validation being another word needing disambiguation I suppose. I see it as the act of expressing non-judging emphatic understanding. Using the OFNR framework with active l…

On “Pentagon Planned for a Bitcoin Rebellion”

People have been making the point long before Chomsky. Education for the masses is about training people to fit into domination based hierarchies1. In the past such systems produced better outcomes. As info explodes and people learn there are other structures besides Hierarchies that can produce outcomes (such as Networks) the Hierarchies start teetering. And training for obedience becomes less important. 1 link to this video
