Roger Seheult, MD discusses the potential of cheap, frequent, at-home rapid antigen tests to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Professor Roger Seheult, MD discusses the current COVID-19 testing strategy in the United States that the CDC estimates picks up less than 10% of infections. Dr. Seheult of MedCram.com features snippets from a recent This Week in Virology (Episode 640) with Dr. Michael Mina of Harvard who explains that the technology exists for at home, inexpensive, self-administered, "paper" COVID-19 antigen tests that are likely accurate enough to pick up the vast majority of infectious cases of COVID-19. And how lower sensitivity of inexpensive tests may be ideal for a screening test that is performed with high frequency. Utilization of these "daily quick tests" may provide the optimal path forward to curtail the growth of COVID-19 and open schools and our economy in a much safer way. On “U.S. to require negative Covid-19 tests for international air passengers”

…ve COVID. And the public health measures of testing / contact tracing ONLY works if testing results come back quick. PCR tests are neither fast nor cheap, so those are not as effective in prevention of spreading because you don't do those all the time (slow + expensive). Medcram has a good video talking about this. 3 1: link 2: link 3: link to this video…

Ct is defined as the cycle number when the sample fluorescence exceeds a chosen threshold above the calculated background fluorescence.5 In other words, the lower the Ct value of a specific gene, the more the gene exists in the sample. However, the problem with a Ct-based diagnosis is that there is no absol…
