An introduction to how scientists formulate questions and design experiments, using research on an FDA-approved drug's effect on health.

Learn how a scientist asks questions in her research. This introduction to the NGSS Science and Engineering Practice of Asking Questions and Defining Problems provides an example of how asking questions can help a scientist design her experiments. This video is intended for middle school and high school audiences. It explains how a common FDA-approved drug seems to influence health and, then introduces a series of scientific questions that are important to help plan follow up experiments. This video was produced as part of Buck Institute’s STEAM Engine, which uses Buck science to prepare teachers and classes for the Next Generation Science Standards.
