Craig Ferguson shares his personal experience with alcoholism and explains why he chooses to show empathy rather than mock others in crisis.

Craig Ferguson one of the person I have lot of respect for, speaks on his past problems as an alcoholic and why he will not ridicule Britney Spears and her shaved head crisis. Must watch! On “I am a successful software dev but I have a serious drinking problem”

Craig Ferguson did a good piece about his alcoholism, a year or two that went missing from his life, 15 years of being sober, etc. It's really good, and there might be something in it for you: link to this video

On “Do startups have a drinking problem?”

This comment is profoundly unsympathetic to people who have recovered from alcoholism and decided that for their own health they must abstain. This comment is profoundly unsympathetic to people with sensitivity to alcohol. I'm deeply grateful that my friends and the people I work with respect each others' boundaries with alcohol and other substances. So what if you do "have a problem"? Is it right for someone to push alcohol on you, knowing that you have a problem? Perhaps I should offer discounts at the liquor store to people who turn in their AA coins, because alcoholism is "their problem" not mine? On “Has AI already killed self-help nonfiction books?”

I’m not going to defend the self-help industry, but your dismissal made me think of how Craig Ferguson described bad rehabs VS good rehabs. link to this video Yes, of course you need to put in work to enact change. The bigger the change, the more work you need to put in. That desire for a quick and easy solution to hard problems is exactly what lead to the proliferation of scams.
